License - Introduction to SMART clients and SMART RMC

The SMART software solution for TSM consists of two parts. (1) SMART client software for various Windows Server flavours and (2) SMART console software (add-on), called RMC.

To conduct automated server recovery processes straight out of TSM, you need SMART clients. In larger SMART environments we suggest the SMART RMC console software, however RMC is not required to run automated server recoveries. SMART RMC is considered an add-on. SMART Client Licenses

How many SMART Licenses do you need ? For each Windows production server needed to be SMART recovered out of TSM, purchase a equivalent SMART license.

Please consider whether 32-bit or 64-bit client is required. Furthermore, if the production server is running in a Windows Cluster, separate cluster licenses apply.

Windows Cluster Add-On

Customers running SMART recovery of servers connected to a Windows Cluster are advised to acquire the SMART WinCluster add-on.

One WinCluster add-on supports one SMART Recovery of one Windows Cluster - directly from TSM. In addition, the SMART project must include SMART32/SMART64 licenses for each Windows server in the cluster to be autorecovered by SMART software.

In addition, recovery of a Microsoft Cluster requires recovery of the Active Directory; please ensure a SMART license for an ActiveDirectory server as well.

RMC - Recovery Manager Console for SMART

The RMC software is an add-on to SMART solutions. RMC provides an integrated management console for one or several SMART recovery platforms. RMC manages autoscheduling of all server recovery processes, SLA management and compliance reporting within one intergrated RePortal. Read more here....

For each RMC platform the customer acquires CALs according to the number of SMART Recovery processes which can be managed by - and report into - the RMC platform. Hence, if the solution involves 55 SMART licenses (to autorecovery 55 Windows servers from TSM), one would possible acquire 55 RMC CALs to ensure proper management of all SMART processes.

Discounts

Volume discounts are offered during each purchase the customer makes. Hence, consider which servers, i.e. how many SMART licenses, you require in the time to come. Take into account the need for SMART Cluster support as well as future plans for the Compliance RePortal, the RMC add-on.

Maintenance subscription

SMART software comes with one year's maintenance (mandatory). During purchase you can opt for 2 years maintenance in total. Maintenance subscription gives access to online support, software patches and updates.
