Get a quick overview of SMART features, platform and application support by SMARTtsm's automated recovery solution - based on server backups in TSM.
The overview also compares the SMART solution with other classic recovery and testing approaches with TSM customers. In some cases you could replace existing methods and tools improving IT security with SMART; in other cases you can opt to combine existing tools with SMARTtsm to maximize return on the TSM investment.
The Supported Platform document assumes best-practice installed Windows environments. Consequently, customers may experience that a Windows / application environment described as 'supported' may prove difficult to recover due to a more proprietary nature of the environment. Contact us if you need guidance in such cases.
IMPORTANT: The below Platform Support document describes classic SMART scenarios currently running with our customers. A variety of other Windows platforms, TSM software and installed application environments are recoverable with SMART although not described below.

SMART features and benefits
| Features and benefits |
| Automatically, server backups are recovered with application integrity validation through fully automated recovery processes. |
| Minimizing data loss (Recovery Point Objective/RPO) by automatic identification of faulty server backups. |
( ) |
| Minimizing downtime (Recovery Time Objective/RTO) from scheduled full-server recovery tests from backups. |
| Avoid or postpone investment in mirrored /syncronization IS technologies. |
( ) |
| Eliminate the requirement for twin platforms of production and test respectively during backup recovery testing. Recovery tests execute on dissimilar platforms. |
( ) |
| Optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) from execution of frequent, automated server recovery tests with application validation. |
| Continuous validation of recovered database servers through semantic integrity analysis providing business data extracts from recovered application environments. |
| Execution on auto-recovery processes onto low-cost equipment. |
| Support of conducting server recovery processes into virtualized platforms. |
| Schedule monitoring framework for periodic execution of recovery directly from backup. |
| Full server recoveries process via WAN/Internet whilst recovered application environments are validated on the server replica on the remote site. |
| Centralized management of multiple recovery platforms providing scheduling and reporting facilities (requires RMC add-on) |
| Detailed log of recovery processes to identify critical backup and recovery pitfalls. |
| Allows for swift (re)creation of test and development environments on sole basis of backup data. Two in one - both backup validation and server replica for test and development. |
